Tabloid-style spooky stories

I love "true" ghost stories and where ever I go, I try do go on ghost walks and read up on local stories, so I didn't hesitate when I found this book. I should have saved myself the trouble: this volume is neither scary nor well written nor of much use if you plan to go explore the spooky side of your neighbourhood. First of all, the stories are very short, and often very vague in details. Names are obviously made up, addresses not given "by request of the current owners" etc.; there are no sources, and the writing is amazingly bad. What annoyed me most, however, were moral judgments the author has cleverly tried to sneak into the story, such as indiscriminately condemning abortions, or saying that a woman who had a relationship outside marriage was not fit to be a teacher.
Low on information on hauntings, and not even entertaining.

Haunted Northern California

Anyone who wants to know more about the area's paranormal activity will find something interesting in Charles A. Sansfield Jr's book. Most of the stories were new to me, and all were interesting with a lot of background information on what likely cause(s) were behind the activity. The book was well written, free of spelling errors and was colorful / entertaining.
