Humorous and interesting look at fatherhood and Scientology

This book gives an insightful look at the role Scientology plays in the lives of children and their parents. More importantly it is a light-hearted, yet poignant look at Bruce's role of stay-at-home Dad to his two children. It will have you in stitches of laughter one minute and deep in thought the next. I highly recommend this book - it will appeal to all parents or parents-to-be, particularly those who have Dad being the non-traditional stay-at-home parent.

A must for all parents

This book moved me immensely. Bruce tells us with pathos and subtle humour and an easy flowing style of his own distressing childhood and the joy he finds in rearing his children. This memoir acutely emphasizes the task we have as parents and grandparents to nurture our children. He has the ability to draw the reader into his memoir with tremendous empathy. He makes you laugh and cry.I recommend it to all parents, particularly prospective parents.

Wonderful, touching story

This story was very sad at times, but overall my impression is that this man's experiences have actually caused him to work hard at being a great dad and husband. Trying doesn't mean you are always going to make it, and no one is perfect. But you can always be better if you work on it. Mr. Clark has worked on it, worked on himself, and I think he deserves big time brownie points for coming out of a horrendous upbringing, getting himself in better shape, and being a wonderful dad to his kids. My personal viewpoint is that this is tremendously important. So he wasn't the big breadwinner, okay - but he still made a good life for himself and his family. Not everyone will or can fit the "typical" man-role. So what.
I cried over some of it, and some of the most lovely parts where he writes about his kids made me cry the hardest, but not because of sadness - but because it was so touching. The treatment he got from his parents made me cry because it was so horrible. There is NO EXCUSE for this. NO EXCUSE. Good on Mr. Clark for moving on and creating a good life for himself and his family, but if there is reincarnation, his mother is gonna suffer with her karma for a long long time, and good ol pops will, too. And I already know that the folks his mother worked with are suffering their own Karma for their contribution. Sure I can look back at my own life and some of the stupid things I did, but I don't have to look back and think I did to my kids anything like what happened to Mr. Clark.
Folks, no matter what you are involved in, be it career, religion, hobby - never forget that you cannot undo what you did or didn't do with or for your children. You can't go back and make it right. And you have to live with that, and so do they. The way you treat your children creates your future as well as theirs. Make it a good future.
This book is an excellent example of how parents can screw up and how they can do the right thing. Clark's parents screwed up big time. Clark himself has NOT screwed up. He can be my dad - okay not really, I am a couple of years older than he is! But you get the idea, I'm sure.
I also really enjoyed his sense of humor and somewhat blunt and x-rated commentary, since I have the sense of humor of a 13-17 year old boy! Got a lot of laughs out of this!
Bless you for writing this, Mr. Clark! Good on you for making your life better than the crap you were given! Good on you for being a great dad! Keep it up!
