Not Helpful, Feels Contrived

I want to apologize for leaving a negative review on this book, especially since mine is the first review. But I have to be honest: I did not find one thing in this book that was helpful, insightful, or sensible.
Doreen Virtue has in the past written some very insightful and interesting books. That is why I purchased this particular one. I was hoping for some insight into water-based spirit forms, or perhaps star-seeds that tend to come from liquid based environments spiritually.
What I got sounded like it should have been the bible in Disney's "The Little Mermaid" universe.
This book absolutely fails to communicate what mermaids are supposed to be, where to find them, why you should connect with them, or what they can do for you/help you learn. Mind you it *tries* to address all those questions. But I was left scratching my head and thinking this book felt like nothing more than an attempt to get another book on the shelves.
Those who have read one or two mermaid stories and anything about the angel work Doreen Virtue does can predict everything in this book. (Think angels with fins, who inexplicably choose to live underwater, and may or may not be real.)
There are no concrete guidelines for contacting, working with, or being helped by mermaids.
I'm sorry. But this book does not have the level of insight or honest usefulness that some of her other books have.

Doreen Virtue has written some very insightful and interesting books. For me, this is not one of them. This is a very short book, but I almost put it down, and did not finish it. I did plow through it, but there was none of the carefully researched aspects that I feel are available in some of her other books. She mentions that she has used material from a previous book. As far as I could tell, that was the only information that pertained in any way to the subject of the book.
I pre-purchased the book as I was that excited about the subject matter. However, all I felt was totally confused by the end of the book. And that perhaps, the book should have been written for and dedicated to her friends, and not released for the public.

This isn't what I thought it was going to be. While there is great info in here a lot of it felt like a sales pitch for other friends of Doreen's and more their personal stories. I bought hoping to learn about working with mermaids and more. In the end I did learn something from the book. But walked away wanting more. It's a quick read though. And if you take her Realm reading course it will help you with that a bit. Other than that, know that while you will learn some you won't learn a lot and you will read much of other peoples personal stories. It's a short book as well.
ETA: I don't think it's worth $9.99 for an ebook, print yes but ebook it's pricey.
