Me gusta el planteamiento; Ver cómo aporta evidencias de que cuando el aprendizaje y el comocimiento no son domados por el sistema, la genialidad intelectual se abre paso y produce los avances en la ciencia.

No comparto para nada el enfoque romántico y la dualidad que establece con la poesía como único canal de propagación de la ciencia revelde y es por eso que el libro no se lleva las 5 estrellas.

Recuerdo haber leido en algún libro que cuando Gauss preguntó por la ausencia de uno de sus estudiantes y recibió la respuesta de que había abandonado la ciencia en favor de la poesía, su respuesta fue: "no me sorprende, le faltaba imaginación".

I like the view on the matter. I like to see how he brings continuous multiple focus evidences of how disastrous it is to tame the learning process of the human mind. When the system faces a revel mind, chances are that we might be witnessing the best of science. That that actually make us advance.

On the other hand, I do not share his portray of poetry as the only channel for revel science to thrive. And this is why this book does not score 5 stars.

I remember having read in a book that, upon Gauss' inquiry about the absence of one of his students, another student answered he had abandoned science to pursue poetry and Gauss answered: "I am not surprised, he lacked imagination".

Few of the thousands of regiments raised to fight the American Civil War experienced the remarkably diverse history of this little-known organization.

The Wisconsin "Badgers" began the war as foot soldiers in the summer of 1861 as the 4th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry. After service in Maryland guarding railroads, the men sailed to the Gulf of Mexico to join Maj. Gen. Benjamin Butler’s expedition to capture the South’s most important city: New Orleans. From August 1862 to July 1863, the 4th Wisconsin participated as infantry or mounted infantry in a series of bloody battles in Louisiana, including Baton Rouge, Bisland, the siege of Port Hudson, and Clinton. With a desperate need for mounted troops, the Badgers were officially changed to cavalry in September 1863 and became the 4th Wisconsin Cavalry. As troopers, they took part in four mounted expeditions across Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, serving under such notable generals as Albert Lee, John Davidson, and Benjamin Grierson.

The Confederate armies surrendered in the spring of 1865, but the 4th Wisconsin Cavalry joined Maj. Gen. Wesley Merritt’s cavalry division that July on its ride from Louisiana into Texas, where the regiment was broken up and deployed in various outposts along the Rio Grande River. On May 28, 1866, Wisconsin’s last regiment of Civil War volunteers was finally mustered out at Brownsville, Texas. Unfortunately, many of the men would not be going home: 431 had lost their lives to enemy bullets and disease.

Eight years in the making, Martin’s regimental history is based upon scores of previously unused soldier and civilian diaries, letters, reports, contemporary newspapers, and reminiscences. It includes dozens of previously unpublished soldier photos, and a complete roster. Martin’s study is a must-have addition for every serious Civil War reader. About the Author: A descendant of a Civil War soldier who was wounded at the Wheatfield at Gettysburg, Michael James Martin grew up in Mequon, Wisconsin, and received both an MS and a Ph.D. in Animal science from the University of Missouri-Columbia. A Must have for Civil War historians

It has been a long time coming, but a book on the 4th Wisconsin is finally here. The men of the Regiment would be proud of this accomplishment, it is well done. The battle maps, photographs of soldiers and personal letters/stories are the icing on an already wonderful book. If you like the Civil War and want to learn more about what went on in the Western Campaign during the Civil War, this book is a must have.

The 4th Wisconsin gets its due . . .

I thoroughly enjoyed "A History of the 4th Wisconsin Infantry and Cavalry in the Civil War." Until now the 4th Wisconsin Cavalry and its contributions to the Federal effort during and after the Civil War had all but been forgotten. Thanks to some hard work and a knack for ferreting out information from unlikely places, we now have a good understanding of just what this group of Badgers went through and accomplished in the Trans-Mississippi Theater. Martin covers the regiment from top to bottom . . . from its formation at Camp Utley in Racine, Wisconsin, to its mustering out at Brownsville, Texas, in May 1866. This is one of the few Federal units that fought as infantry, mounted infantry and, following its official redesignation in September 1863, cavalry. As a result, these Badgers were everywhere: the Eastern Shore of Virginia and Maryland, Louisiana: New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Alexandria, Port Hudson; Mississippi: Vicksburg, Brookhaven, Osyka, Liberty, West Pascagoula; Alabama: Greensville, Eufala, Clinton; Texas: San Antonio, Laredo, Rio Grande City, Las Cuevas, Santa Maria, Brownsville. In addition to a plethora of diary material, the book is filled with letters and exerpts from letters that were published in one of the state's major, Milwaukee Sentinel, and many local newspapers. The book contains a superb recounting of the regiment's first major engagement at Bisland, Louisiana, its decimation (it sufferered 64% casualties, the largest of any regiment in the Corps) during the Port Hudson Campaign, its fight at Clinton, Louisiana, under Benjamin Grierson (who did not have one of his better days during that contest) and its participation as cavalry in three major raids through Mississippi and Alabama. With the aid of diaries written by an officer in the 11th New York Cavalry and three 4th Wisconsin troopers, this book contains the first complete day-by-day recounting of Major General John Wynn Davidson's 300 mile-plus raid from Baton Rouge to West Pascagoula. As a bonus, the first complete history of "Canby's Special Scouts" also known as "Earl's Scouts" is also included. This group of individuals was led by Company D's Lieutenant Isaac Earl and was comprised almost exclusively of individuals from the 4th Wisconsin Cavalry. The "corps" of scouts, which was initially created by Major General Nathanial Banks, was inherited and expanded by his predecessor, Major General Edward R.S. Canby. Earl's Scouts operated out of Natchez, Mississippi, and were responsible for clandestinely obtaining information on Confederate activities in an area stretching from Bruinsburg and St. Joseph to Fayette, Mississippi. With the aid of his pocket steamer, Colonel Cowles, Earl and his command occasionally scouted as far as DeWitt, Arkansas. Though a history of a "Yankee" regiment, the author has no difficulty giving the Confederate forces their due. Martin lauds not only the Confederates that faced, and easily repulsed, the Badgers during their assaults on the Priest Cap at Port Hudson but also Colonel John Logan and his command's performance at the first battle of Clinton, where Colonel Grierson was soundly thrashed. Rounding out this excellent book is an extremely interesting group of 4th Wisconsin soldier post-war biographies, a complete regimental roster, appendices that list casualties that the regiment suffered during its two assaults on Port Hudson and a listing of 4th Wisconsin soldiers that are interred in the National Cemetery at Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Understanding Physics – Second edition is a comprehensive, yet compact, introductory physics textbook aimed at physics undergraduates and also at engineers and other scientists taking a general physics course. With this in mind, this second edition of Understanding Physics introduces 20th Century topics at an earlier stage than is usually found in introductory textbooks and these are integrated with more ‘classical’ material from which they have evolved. Understanding Physics emphasizes, in a fully rigorous manner, the essential unity of physics.

In twenty-two chapters all fundamental concepts of physics, from classical building towards more specialised subjects, are presented. Among the many topics covered are:

excellent calculus-based physics textbook for freshmen

This is an excellent calculus-based physics textbook for first year university students. It assumes you had a thorough high school physics course as it immediately builds on that knowledge. To be fully prepared for this work you'll need a solid grasp of high school algebra, trigonometry and basic vectors. Having some exposure to calculus will certainly help, too.

What makes it so good is the teaching aspect. New math like calculus, more advanced vectors and linear algebra are introduced as needed in gray boxes. Optional advanced topics are highlighted in a blue background. As you read each chapter the definitions are clearly marked; the authors tell you when to consult the worked examples and when to attempt each numbered problem. This avoids interrupting the flow of the text if you just want the theory first. Answers (but not fully-worked solutions) to all problems are given at the back so no need to shell out extra $$$ for a separate answers book.

Covers everything - mechanics, heat and thermodynamics, fluids, light, wave motion & optics, electricity and magnetism, quantum and atomic physics all the while integrating modern (20th century) physics with the classical topics. And it does all of this in under 700 pages. Not much on sound though.

It's black and white on plain paper and uses the blue color for emphasis when it makes sense to do so. It bucks the current trend of using lots of garish colors and glossy pages which are just a distraction anyway (and needlessly drives up the price).

The hardcover is over 100 dollars but if you want the paperback it's about 50. How nice! a textbook that's actually priced with students in mind. ISBN of the paperback is 9780470746370.

One bad thing: When I looked at an almost brand-new paperback copy, the binding was already beginning to fail with loose pages evident.

Comprehensive, if hard work

This book gives a comprehensive introduction to today's physics, and is nicely written, illustrated, and laid out. One warning: it gets into calculus within the first few pages, so consider it a text only for the serious student.

Bad quality binding

Although the contents of the book are good, please note that the binding quality of the book is very bad. Just after reading it once, pages are coming loose and the book is practically falling apart. Multiple other students at my university have the same problem.

Bring Out Your Inner Punjabi! Recipes for Spicy Nights.

You NEED this book in your life.I just got this book a week ago, and have made at least a dozen recipes so far! I didn't think I could love any Vegan Style Indian book more than her first one (The Indian Slow Cooker), but this is just as great! SO excited about this ALLl VEGAN book!! So many veggies including kale, okra, sweet potatoes, cabbage. Soups & Breads. Salads that sound amazing-think spicy fruits, carrots, daikons! Slow Cooker & Stovetop recipes. Can't wait to make the South Indian Crepes. The dishes are already very healthy with emphasis on whole foods & dried beans. Anupy uses small amounts of oil and salt. I have found that you can skip both of those and still have great food. Last night we had the Kale Pizza breads-a super quick snack. Oh, and it has Anupy's best on the planet Chai recipe. And the drink section includes Iced Coffee & Green Drinks-for those of us who don't just do one or the other! Very inexpensive on Amazon and a lifetime of Indian food. Ingredients are inexpensive. Now should I whip up another dish with the cabbage before hubby comes home....decisions.....

Just a few of the recipes I have tried so far....Besan Poora (Chickpea Flour Crepes), Street Corn Salad, Jeera Aloo (Cumin Potato Hash), Punjabi Khardi (Chickpea Flour Curry with Veggies), Band Gobi (Punjabi Style Cabbage), Samosas, Cabbage with Mustard Seeds and Coconut, Methi Palak Aloo (Fenugreek Spinach Potatoes), Bhindi Masala (Crackling Okra), Sweet and Sour Potatoes, Spicy Plantains, Jeera Chawal (Cumin Rice), Tofu Curry, Mock Keema, Masala Tofu Scramble, Chickpea Poppers...

Looking forward to trying the homemade yogurt (vegan of course!), Dosas, Spice Mixes, Chai, Chana & Split Moong Dal with Pepper Flakes, Panchratna Dal (5 lentil stew), Brown Rice and Adzuki Bean Dhokla, Tandoori Tempeh, Pomegranate Chaat, Tofu Pakora, South Indian Tomato and Tamarind Soup, Mattar Paneer, Curried Winter Melon, Lemon Brown Rice, and the list continues. Chutneys, Breads, Salads, Legumes, Dips.

OH. Fabulous thing about slow cooking is that you cut up all those great things like cabbage, garlic, onions, etc...and then it takes time for the slow cooker to heat. This is perfect because that way we actually get those immunity boosting compounds out of the food. Either eat them raw or cut them up and let sit for 40 minutes. This book has both slow cooked & stovetop. And it seems like every ingredient is a REAL superfood. Affordable, everyday superfoods.

THE BEST vegan recipes

My wife and I are vegan and have tried many different recipes we found on the internet that were rated highly. They were all just "meh".

This book, however, is full of unbelievably tasty and easy to make recipes. If you're looking for easy to make GREAT Indian food then you need this book. The recipes online and elsewhere can't compare at all.

Every single recipe we have tried from this book (and we've tried MANY so far) have been a smashing success. Everything about this book and these recipes scream authentic and you will become addicted to this cuisine. The book is well organized and her recipes are well formatted and easy to follow. There are little stories and tips about each recipe given. Very nice touch.

There are many Indian dishes in this book that you can find at restaurants but these recipes DESTROY restaurant made food. A wonderful example is chana masala. THE BEST I've ever had. The book is chock full of recipes for things I've never even heard of and can't pronounce but they are fantastic dishes.

Even if you aren't vegan you should get this book for easy to make healthy recipes. You will likely need to visit an Indian grocery store or do some shopping online for some of the spices. As far as I can tell you can also find all of the spices you need (and can't find in a regular grocery store) right here on Amazon for good prices.

Fabulous easy to make healthy and DELICIOUS food!

I am not a vegan.. I'm not even a vegetarian. I eat fish once in awhile, and I eat very little dairy. But I live in Chicago, right off Devon, so I know my way around Indian cooking. And I consider Indian food one of the TOP THREE cuisines in the world, along with Thai and Mexican, imho. And this new cookbook, Vegan Indian Cooking, is really great!
I know from experience that Indian cooking at first can seem a bit daunting because the list of ingredients can go on forever, but once you get a few basic staples it's really very simple, even for an inexperienced cook. And Anupy Singla makes it very easy to understand. I can easily see making EVERY recipe in this book!
Vegetarian food does NOT have to be boring. And this book proves that VEGAN food can be both healthy AND UNBELIEVABLY DELICIOUS!
Thank you, Anupy, for this wonderful and valuable cookbook.

LOVE this book!

Brenna's book is incredible! She has given me so many ideas that have helped me to organize my home and my life. Her stories add such a personal touch, and I laughed and cried my way through it all. This is a must-read! Even if you're already an organized person as I was, there are many suggestions in here that can help you to really have an 'All-star Team'.

INVALUABLE!!!

I can add this book to my "if onlys" in life. IF ONLY I'd had this book when my boys were toddlers!!! I was absolutely amazed at the powerful insight and solutions provided in this book for moms. What makes the message even more powerful is the Christian foundation by which every aspect of the book is written. "Coach Mom" coaches the mom by first strengthening the mom in her faith foundation which pours over into the lives of those in her family. I loved how Brenna Stull focuses on the mother's relationship with the Lord, first and foremost, and then provides solutions to some of mom's daily struggles . . . all grounded in the Christian faith. What I found most powerful is that although the entire book is focused upon the family, it's really not . . . Brenna Stull aims to focus first on the mom's faith by walking through her own personal struggles of faith. She spends a great amount of time helping to build mom's faith in the midst of raising the all-star team.

The writing style was incredibly well organized through a wide range of topics and passionately written through each page. Brenna has coached an all-star team and knows the ins and outs of how to do your best at winning the game. Better than that, she gives you all her secrets, play by play, which are easy to implement and provide powerful results. As a Psychology major, with special studies in Child Psychology, I was amazed at the author's use of Psychology rooted motivational techniques, combined with the Christian faith. At the end of each chapter, you'll be challenged to take action. It's easy to read words on a page, but Brenna cheers you on to take next steps. I felt like I had a personal trainer for "momhood!" Truly, the author's insight and provided solutions within the book are INVALUABLE!!!!!

I would HIGHLY recommend this for any mom and this would make a FANTASTIC book for the mom-to-be!!! This book can truly transform lives in greater ways than probably anyone can imagine. "Coach Mom" is the playbook to coach the winning team she dreams of.

Disapointing

First off let me say that I love chick lit and I love shopping so I figured I'd love this book. I was completely wrong. I couldn't relate to the main character of this book. She is an African-American Republican and her political views are mentioned frequently throughout the book in a very judgmental manner.

All of the characters are completely one dimensional to the point of being cartoonish. The rich characters are beautiful, selfish, mean and self centered the poor characters are average looking, upstanding, moral do-gooders who only think of others and improving the world. Real people are 3 dimensional- no one is all good or all bad- but the author would have you believe otherwise. Much of the book is spent on the main character feeling sorry for herself to the point that you want to tell her to just get over it and get on with her life.

I am amazed by the number of good reviews. They must have read a different book. I picked up this book expecting that was light and fun. This book is depressing and the plot is so formulaic I kept wondering if I had read it before. About 1/3rd of the way through I wanted to stop reading but I figured that it couldn't get any worse. I was wrong. The book ends abruptly with minimal resolution and I wish I had not wasted my money or time on this novel.

I was hoping thias was a good book because I like dthe cover lol well its not! the book was boring and I love to read but I stopped after like 30 pages because I got bored. The book dragged and it seems this writer is trying to copy a style that didnt fit her very well I love girly books (like by shophie kinsella) and this was jus not gooD!

Six months after her lover Michael, of five years, leaves her claiming he's too young to settle down, Weslee moves from Chicago to Boston to finish her MBA. She wants to put distance between her and Michael and give her heart a chance to heal. Among her new classmates is Lana, a wealthy young woman who loves to party. There are things about Lana that Weslee doesn't particularly care for, such as her sharp tongue and her snobbishness, but Lana introduces her to a whole new world that includes friends and up-scale parties on Martha's Vineyard. Lana also introduces Weslee to upscale dressing and shows her how to buy expensive, name brand clothing. As a result, Weslee becomes addicted to shopping.

Weslee meets several handsome men and one of them is Lana's cousin, Duncan. She also meets William, a friend of Lana's, and finds him attractive as well, but puts him on hold in favor of Duncan's charm, grace and good looks. In a very short time, she's head over heels in love and she begins to spend more and more money on clothes and shoes. Her carefully planned school budget takes a huge hit.

Joanne Skerrett has written a wonderfully suspenseful love story about a young woman who has a tendency to rush into relationships before she really gets to know the man. In addition, when things begin to go sour, she doesn't hesitate to blame herself. SHE WHO SHOPS is stunningly realistic and all of us have known someone like Weslee, or have even behaved this way ourselves. It is a book that can entice anyone who likes finger biting suspense.

About the Author
Sutton Vane (1888–1963) was a British actor and playwright. He started his career as an actor until the outbreak of the First World War. He joined up in 1914 at the age of 26 and served until he was invalided out due to shell-shock. Vane was haunted by his war experiences, and once he sufficiently recovered, he returned to the combat area as a civilian, appearing for the entertainment of troops near the front lines during the latter half of the war. After the Armistice, Vane turned to writing plays, and authored two conventional works that caused little stir. Outward Bound was his third play and the work for which he is now remembered.

Excellent Practical Book Teachers can use everyday

Unlike many books that deal with generalities, this book deals with the specifics of creating a Learning Target, walks you thru the process and ties this in to all the planning for the lesson. I strongly recommend this book for teachers. In addition, it was a used book that was in excellent condition, arrived very quickly. Excellent book, outstanding service.

Good Ideas, Hard to Follow

I was assigned this book to read in my PLC group. While the ideas were good, it seemed more like a hard to follow repackaging of UbD instead of a fresh new perspective. The language used required so much dissection to pull out the purpose the author intended that it became tedious to read. This significantly detracted from the value of the ideas put forth. If I wanted to spend as much time doing in depth text analysis, I would have picked up some Kant.
